Holiday Lettings Market
What's happening in the UK holiday lettings market?
The demand for self catering breaks in holiday cottages in the UK is huge. The latest estimated annual spend on holidays is £1.5bn generated by a stock of from 60,000 letting units comprising cottages, barns, houses and lodges. During the past 2 years there has been a surge in the accommodation stock and this extra capacity has been filled by UK consumers switching from foreign holidays on the back of the weak pound.
House Nouse have detected the following trends in demand during the past 5 years;
- A newly found passion for ‘staycations' underpinned by a weak pound, a strengthening environmental conscience to avoid high carbon emissions from air miles and, the concern over prolonged delays at the airport caused by congestion and security checks.
- A surge in the number of properties becoming available to let
- A rising expectation of professionally produced brochures and web sites with good quality imagery.
- A demand for higher standards of furnishings and service. Granny's cast off furniture will no longer do.
- A continuing willingness to pay a premium for quality. Those in full time employment are reaping the benefit of historically low mortgage rates.
- An increasing appetite for shorter breaks and more flexible booking terms
- A greater tendency to book late and for immediate access to live availability on-line.
