The current status of the holiday lettings sector in the UK is summarised below;
- Supply There are now circa 80,000 cottages and houses which are available for holiday letting in the UK. During the past 3 years competition has intensified between suppliers at the lower price end of the sector from the increase in popularity of glamping accommodation.
- Demand Consumer demand for UK holidays has remained strong. The vast majority of families are taking at least one UK break each year. The future looks healthy as security checks at airports, terrorism threats and a weak exchange rate for the £ have dampened some of the demand for foreign holidays in the sun. Short breaks are showing the highest growth in the UK.
- Sales Channels Consumers now have immediate access a vast array of shopping channels to buy a holiday in a cottage. Property owners need to use the right mix of channels to maximise their occupancy and net income.
- Guest Expectations Quality furnishings and service are paramount. Furnishing accommodation with Granny’s cast offs are no longer acceptable.
